As my summer adventures came to a close, my colleagues and I turned our attention to starting the new school year. PICS welcomed two new teachers (one of which is my new roommate), a handful of new students and our high school principal as the interim director.
The current realities of our school in the beginning of August had myself and the majority of our staff concerned. Our previous director returned to the States in June, and our high school principal is expecting a baby girl at the end of September and then planning on being a stay-at-home mom. We had low enrollment at the end of the 2012-2013 school year, and many students didn't plan on returning for various reasons. Without leadership and not having enough students to meet budget, our staff turned to prayer and I anxiously waited to see how God was going to work this year.
Reflecting back after finishing the first three weeks of the year, it is amazing to see how God provides. Our interim director began the year strong with Professional Development about Professional Learning Communities, this has set in place the structure for us to continue to grow professionally as a staff. Before school started, I feel that my coworkers and I came together with a shared vision to make it a successful, fruitful year. We have delegated important administrative jobs and put structures in place on how to run without a director. I have complete confidence that our staff will be able to continue to run the school smoothly when our interim director goes on maternity leave. In October, our former director is returning temporarily as a consultant to ensure we are doing well and to conduct faculty evaluations. Please pray that our staff will stay unified and able to hold each other accountable. It will be a great year!
On Monday of this past week, I got three new students! On Friday another family came to our school bringing two more in elementary! Our total student enrollment is at 111 students, one above budget! Please continue to pray that God will provide more students and that the ones we have stay the whole year.
God has provided for our school despite a year that looked bleak. He has plans our school and our students. Pray that our staff is able to continue to preach the gospel daily and our students will coming to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Here is a picture of my classroom the first week I returned. There have been many more decorations hung on the wall since then!
